“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

Hey soul tribe, have you ever felt like you’re waiting for God to show up in big, bold ways? Maybe through a sign in the sky, a dramatic change, or some undeniable miracle? I get it. Life is noisy—our thoughts race, the world shouts, and sometimes we wonder if God is even listening. But what if He’s been speaking all along? Just… not loudly. What if God is in the whisper?

The Meaning of the Whisper

There’s a beautiful moment in 1 Kings 19:11–13 where Elijah, a prophet of God, is standing on a mountain, waiting to hear from the Lord. A mighty wind rips through, then an earthquake, then fire—but God isn’t in any of those. Finally, there comes a gentle whisper. And that’s where Elijah finds Him.

Isn’t that beautiful? The whisper doesn’t mean God is far—it means He’s close. You don’t whisper to someone far away; you whisper to someone near enough to hear. That’s intimacy. That’s God drawing near, inviting us into stillness, presence, and trust.

How to Listen for the Whisper

Listening for God’s whisper takes intention. We have to be willing to slow down and create space. I’ve found that the more I lean into quiet moments, the more I notice His presence. You can too.

Here are a few ways to tune your heart to His voice:

  • Slow down. Don’t rush past your own soul. Let your heart breathe.
  • Practice stillness. Even five minutes of quiet can soften your spirit.
  • Write it out. Journaling your prayers or reflections can bring clarity to what you’re sensing.
  • Get in the Word. Scripture is often the clearest whisper of God’s love and direction.

What to Do When You Hear It

Sometimes God’s whisper comes as a gentle nudge, a sudden peace, or a repeated thought that just won’t leave you alone. It may not be loud, but it carries weight.

When you sense that divine whisper:

  • Pause and pray. Ask God to affirm what you’re sensing.
  • Take small steps. Obedience doesn’t always start with leaps—it often begins with one faithful step.
  • Trust the peace. God’s voice brings peace, even when it invites you out of your comfort zone.

Silencing the Noise

Let’s be real: we are surrounded by noise—news, opinions, fears, endless scrolling and so forth. If we want to hear God’s whisper, we’ve got to turn down the volume of everything else. We’ve got to be intentional.

Try this:

  • Set boundaries with your phone. Silence is a sacred space—protect it.
  • Create moments of quiet. Early mornings, late nights, a walk with no earbuds—anywhere you can just be.
  • Let go of constant doing. Productivity doesn’t always equal purpose. God often moves when we pause.

Final Thoughts

Maybe God isn’t distant or silent. Maybe we’re just too distracted to hear the whisper. But the good news? You can always come back to the quiet. God’s voice isn’t fragile—it’s faithful. And it’s still speaking.

This is proving true in my own life right now. In the quiet, in the stillness, I’ve begun to hear Him more clearly than I have in a long time. His whisper is steady, reassuring, and exactly what my soul needs. I pray the same for you—that as you make room for the whisper, you’ll find God meeting you there with love, peace, and purpose.

So take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Let the noise fall away for just a moment. You’ll find Him there, whispering love, direction, and peace over your life.

God is in the whisper. And He’s whispering to you. Will you be still enough to hear Him?

With love,

Alvina
