Walking with the One I Belong To

I

I remember when I was younger, I carried this picture in my mind of what the world should be. I thought I understood how things worked and where I fit, but there was so much I didn’t know. I found myself in places where I didn’t yet know myself, trying to belong, yet feeling lost in a world that rarely gives you the space to be lost. A world that tells you belonging is everything, because if you don’t belong, you are exposed, unseen, and vulnerable.

Who, what, and how do you belong?

Such a loaded question. One that requires reflection, honesty, and grace to unpack. So let’s begin.

Who do you belong to?

The “who” is the most important because it is your power source. It shapes your identity and guides your choices. Once you know your who, you find rest in that power, in that identity, and in that protection.

The journey toward discovering your who is truly a journey. It takes time, and it looks different for each of us. We all have our own paths and experiences, and through those experiences, we draw nearer to our who. We have been given such a beautiful gift, the gift of choice. The more intentional we become with our choices, the more they shape the pace and direction of our journey.

No matter where you are in yours, take a moment to reflect.
Who did I belong to before?
Who do I belong to now?
How have my choices shaped my journey before?
How do my choices shape my journey now?
And what happens when the before and the now finally meet?

What do you belong to?

The “what” represents the resources connected to your source of power.

What resources do you have access to? Does the power you belong to provide what you need? Does it meet you at your lowest and walk with you through the valley until you reach green pastures? Does it carry authority? Does it give you authority? What is the foundation of that power? Is it rooted in love, or in pain?

As you walk through your journey, take notice of the resources available to you. Are they freely given, or are they conditional? Are they born of grace, or of fear?

How do you belong?

The “how” is the action. It is how we walk in the power and use the resources available to us.

To belong is to understand. To understand that the power you belong to is greater than you, yet lives within you. You are a part of that power. You are connected to it, and it moves through you. When you seek clarity or direction, go to that power. Trust it to guide you as you continue your journey.

Know what resources belong to that power, and call upon them when you need them.

My journey

For much of my life, I belonged to fear and pain. My choices were rooted in both. Now, I belong to my Father in Heaven. I make choices that are rooted in love, peace, authority, and light.

I have access to the fruits of the Spirit, and I call upon them each day. I am learning to strengthen my relationship with my who, my Heavenly Father, so I can better understand the vastness of the power I belong to and my identity within it.

A closing reflection

Now that I am a littler further on my journey, I see the world differently. I see the world for what it is, a temporary experience. During this experience, we have been given free will to choose how we move through it.

My hope and prayer is that we choose to live with awareness and intentionality. That we remember who we belong to, what we have access to, and how we can walk in that power with love, grace, and purpose during our time here.

Soulful Practice

Find a quiet space and take a deep breath. Let the noise of the day fade, even if only for a moment. Close your eyes and ask yourself:

Who do I belong to?
What power covers me, guides me, and loves me even when I forget who I am?
What resources has this Power already placed within and around me?
How can I walk more fully in alignment with that truth today?

Sit with these questions.
Let your spirit respond, not from a place of striving, but from a place of stillness.

If you feel led, write down what surfaces, not to analyze, but to witness your own becoming.

Remember, you are not lost. You are on your journey home to the One who has always known you, always loved you, and has never let you go.

With so much love,

Alvina
